Our teaching faculties

English

At TLSC Tumbi Umbi Campus, our English faculty is dedicated to preparing students for their future by fostering a deep appreciation for literature and the power of language. We believe that engagement with a diverse range of texts—spanning novels, films, non-fiction, drama, and poetry—not only broadens students’ literary knowledge but also deepens their understanding of universal experiences. Through the study of different text types, students will develop a strong grasp of textual conventions while learning how stories reflect and shape the world around us.

Each lesson is designed to be dynamic, thought-provoking, and engaging, incorporating a variety of activities that challenge students while nurturing their critical and creative thinking skills. We value curiosity and intellectual exploration, encouraging all students to contribute to class discussions with confidence. Our high expectations are paired with carefully selected texts that are both rigorous and accessible, ensuring that all students are supported in reaching their full potential.

At TLSC, Tumbi Umbi Campus we celebrate the unique backgrounds, perspectives, and stories that each student brings to the classroom. We believe that literature becomes most meaningful when students can see themselves in the texts they study while also gaining insight into lives and experiences different from their own. By creating an inclusive and supportive environment, we encourage students to express themselves, share their personal narratives, and engage in meaningful discussions that build connections with their peers, teachers, and the literature they encounter.

Our ultimate goal is for students to leave TLSC, Tumbi Umbi Campus with the knowledge, confidence, and skills to use language effectively in any context. Whether crafting a compelling argument, analysing a complex text, or expressing their own ideas with clarity, we equip our students with the tools to navigate the ever- evolving world with confidence and purpose. Through the study of English, we hope to inspire a lifelong appreciation for literature and a deep understanding of the role language plays in shaping our lives.
