This Campus has long recognised its responsibilities to educate all Australians about Aboriginal Australia and to ensure that students with Aboriginal heritage achieve at or better than state in all external measures of academic achievement.
The campus played a large role in the Aboriginal Education Review released in 2005. This review evaluated previous actions by schools and set the path for future actions for all schools to close the gap in achievement between Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal students.
This campus has an unswerving commitment to educating all students about Aboriginal Australia, and to ensuring that every Aboriginal student leaves this campus having achieved personal best. Students with Aboriginal heritage do achieve at state level or better when compared with all students. We are proud of this achievement.
We are proud to be a part of the Aurora Project where top performing Aboriginal students are supported for 5.5 years beginning. We are also working to ensure we meet the expectations of the relevant domains in the national plan.
Partnership
The department has a partnership with the state AECG. Details of the State AECG and the partnership between it and the department can be found on the state AECG website – aecg.nsw.edu.au.
At the local level, Tumbi Umbi Campus Principal and several staff members are associate members of the local AECG, Kuriwa AECG. Our attendance and contribution to meetings is a public display of our long term commitment to Kuriwa's goals, Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal students and our community
The strength of our partnership, and that of the other schools in the Tuggerah Lakes Learning Community (TLLC), with Kuriwa AECG has been recognised through the State Nanga Mai Awards where Kuriwa and TLLC were the inaugural recipients of the School Community Partnership Award. Together we lead the way.
