Students are supported to develop questioning skills and techniques that will enable them to build new understanding through inquiry.
All too often students only ask very simple questions that do not deepen their understanding or build new knowledge. The inquiry process covers questions where the answers are found:
- clearly stated in the text - called 'here questions'
- by connecting information from different places in the text - called Hidden questions
- by using their existing knowledge and connecting with information in the text - called Head questions
Students who use AVID techniques also refer to the different levels of questioning as Costa's House.
