AVID students study and complete various writing activities designed to improve their writing skills and improve their ability to formulate ideas, express feelings and reflect on learning based on activities they have completed or experienced. Students are using writing to learn while they are perfecting their skills in learning to write.
Students use Cornell Notes as a way of taking notes in their classes. Students are taught how to responsible review their Cornell Notes using different steps in ensuring they understand the content from class. Review strategies include chunking, highlighting keywords and developing a summary of their learning.
Students use learning logs to reflect on their learning. this builds their understanding of how they learn so that they become more independent in their learning.
Students use quick writes to build their writing stamina so they can complete larger amounts of well-planned writing for different subjects.
