Technological and applied studies (TAS) is mandatory for all students in Year 7 and 8. Students can also select from a range of elective TAS subjects.
In TAS, students develop knowledge, understanding and skills through a design and production process using a range of tools, materials and techniques in theory and practical lessons.
The continuum of technology learning is:
- mandated from Kindergarten to Year 8 through Science and Technology K-6 and Technology Mandatory Years 7-8 syllabuses
- based on students becoming increasingly sophisticated in their ability to apply knowledge, skills and understanding to design and produce solutions
- optional for student specialisation in high school through a range of syllabuses addressing particular technologies and aspects of design.
At our campus, this faculty is a well-resourced area which offers exceptional facilities with two state-of-the-art hospitality areas, textiles workshop, graphics workshop, metal workshop, wood workshop, jewelry workshop, and welding bay. Each workshop is fully self-contained and set up as a specific purpose learning space which mimics industry where possible.
At TLSC Tumbi Umbi Campus all students study design and technology in Years 7 and 8. Year 7 also study technology mandatory for two periods throughout Year 7.
In Years 9 and 10 all students select two elective subjects. Students can choose from many different electives across the campus. TAS offers:
- child studies
- engineering and graphics studies
- graphics and information software technology
- food technology
- industrial technology – metal products
- industrial technology – timber
- textiles.
Every TAS subject has its own page where you can view an overview of what students are learning, when they are learning it and how it will be assessed. Take a look so you are informed of what opportunities are available to students and more importantly what is happening.
